for example i notice the notes all look like another note but is referring to another place on the fret board so how can i tell if its a open a or an a somewhere else. cause basically all of them look alike. um if anyone can even understand what im saying

If you mean how it sounds the same (same pitch) when you hit an open A string and an E string at the 5th fret, I don't think it matters, the notes on the sheet refer to pitches, not positions. Do what is more comfortable and easier...or what looks cooler.
